El Fog is a solo project of Masayoshi Fujita, who plays vibraphone with live sampling/processing, loop machine and electronics. He has been influenced and inspired by electronic music, jazz, dub, hip hop, classic etc..., and also the silence and deepness of the fog and the mountains and the gravity within. El Fog released his first album "Reverberate Slowly" from Moteer Records (UK) in 2007. His 2nd album "Rebuilding Vibes" was released in december 2009 from Flau label (JP), mixed down with AOKI takamasa and mastered by Stephan Betke (pole, scape).
He is a member of the experimental improvising band "Pan Am Scan". Pan Am Scan is now recording their first full album. Recently he is also collaborating with Jan Jelinek and their album is coming out in March 2010.
"Rebuilding Vibes" is his latest album, whose wonderful works ranges from Dub and Jazz, to Hip Hop and Electoronica. Among other things, one can notice distinctively in this gorgeous album is Fujita's attempts to pursue the new possibilities of sounds in vibraphone. We hear mellow individual phrases with a twist of Jazz, strong impact rhythm production with intricately inlaid click noises, vibrancy of vibraphone's sounds with groovy manipulations like loop, over dub, cut and paste, self sampling, processing and so on. This album is smoky and beautifully built with gorgeous acoustic space. It is, for sure, like nothing else you've heard before. "Rebuilding Vibes" is tastefully mixed by the awesome AOKI takamasa, who also contributed the cover art for the album. Stephan Betke a.k.a. pole, mastered the album.
