Traverse Condition - (18’40 video, Peking 2008), circles around issues of urban construction, condition and paranoia, by referencing the ancient model of acupuncture.
In Acupuncture, there are two basic functions: 1, to cure; 2, to eliminate fatigue. To restore the balance of Yin and Yang, to restore the flow of Qi, the vital energy. The two fundamental energies of Yin and Yang exist everywhere in the earth dominating the universe, for example, including the human universe and the building’s universe. The way the needles being positioned and inserted on the human body is an metaphorically architectural discourse between the needles as the constructing and supporting elements and the human body as the platform to receive and generate energies. In the building context, the actual architectural dialogue is formed when there is the question between the effectiveness and the non-effectiveness in terms of surface, dimension and space.
‘Traverse Condition’ is a collaborative work by the artist and Nan Hao.
