EXTENDED VOICES AND GESTURES Live performance for voice and gesture + Exhibition of drawings and scores Tomomi Adachi (Tokio/Berlin) Alessandra Eramo (IT/Berlin) // Date: Friday, May 31, 2013 // Time: 20:00 h Extended Voices & Gestures brings together two experimental vocalists based in Berlin who are pushing the boundaries of vocal performance art, travelling in sound and image and moving between the visceral and the surreal. Exploring the relationship between voice and gesture, their work together utilizes new compositions of sound poetry, presenting a site-specific performance and, for the first time, an exhibition of drawings and scores. Alessandra Eramo, born in Taranto (Italy) in 1982, is a sound artist, vocalist, performer and researcher. She has trained in classical singing, piano and japanese martial arts since an early age. She studied Visual Art and Performance at the Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, in Stuttgart and at the Ca' Foscari State University of Venice. Her work explores the relationship between sign and voice: writing and sign in their multiple forms, and the human voice as a multi-faceted instrument. A researcher in extended vocal technique, interdisciplinary performance and field recording practice, she creates works on the intersection between sound and poetry, gesture and image. Cultural and language interactions have strongly influenced her art, which focuses on relational aesthetics, action, participatory performances and site specific interventions rather than object-making. She is currently conducting her PhD Research at the University of the Arts in Berlin, and she's active in educational and cultural programs in Germany and internationally as teacher and lecturer, collaborating a.o. with: Akademie Schloss Rotenfels Baden-Württemberg, Universität der Künste Berlin, Music and Audio Research Laboratory - New York University NYC (USA) www.ezramo.com Tomomi Adachi, born in Kanazawa (Japan) in 1972, is a performer, composer, sound poet, installation artist, and occasional theater director. He studied philosophy and aesthetics at Waseda University in Tokyo. He plays improvised music using his voice, live electronics and self-made instruments. He has composed works for his own group "Adachi Tomomi Royal Chorus", which is a punk-style choir. He has performed contemporary music: vocal, live-electronics or performance works by John Cage, Cornelius Cardew, Christian Wolff, Tom Johnson, Dieter Schnebel, Takahashi Yuji, Yuasa Joji and Fluxus. He is the first performer of sound poetry who has brought to stage Kurt Schwitters' "Ursonate" in Japan. He has made several sound installations and build original instruments. In the field of theater music, he has collaborated with experimental theater groups and dance companies. He is the founder of the “Ensemble for Experimental Music and Theater” with his students in Tokyo in 2011, the group is working on pieces by Fluxus artists and recent conceptual composers. As a critic, he has written about visual art, music and performance art on papers and magazines. From 2000-2001 he had participated in the art theory bulletin "Method". 2009-2010 he received a Grant from the Asian Cultural Council for his New York Residency.
